What Dogs Teach Us About Love: The Power of Unconditional Connection 🐾
On October 4th we celebrate World Animal Day, a beautiful moment to reflect on one of the purest forms of connection we experience: the bond between humans and dogs.
In a world where we are more connected digitally than ever before, many people still experience loneliness and a longing for something real. We crave eye contact, presence, trust and the feeling that we can simply be ourselves. And perhaps one of our greatest teachers in unconditional love has been walking beside us for thousands of years: the dog.
The love that asks for nothing in return
A dog does not care about your job title, your social media following, your mistakes from yesterday or whether you had a perfect day. They greet you with the same excitement whether you leave the house for five minutes or come home after a long day.
That pure acceptance is something many people deeply miss in modern relationships. Dogs remind us what it feels like to be welcomed exactly as we are. They don’t ask us to perform. They invite us to be present.
The science behind the human-dog connection
The bond between humans and dogs is not only emotional — science shows that there are also fascinating biological processes involved. Research has shown that positive interaction between humans and dogs can increase oxytocin levels in both species. Oxytocin is often called the “bonding hormone” because it plays an important role in trust, attachment and social connection.
Studies have also found that interactions such as stroking, playing with or walking a dog can be associated with lower stress responses and increased feelings of wellbeing. In other words: that feeling of calm you experience when your dog rests its head on your lap or looks at you with complete trust? There is science behind that feeling.
Dogs bring people together
Dogs have another beautiful quality: they create connection between humans. A walk with a dog often leads to conversations with strangers. A simple “what a beautiful dog” can become a genuine moment of human interaction.
Perhaps dogs remind us that connection does not always have to be complicated.
Sometimes it starts with a smile.
A shared walk.
A conversation.
A moment of presence.
Celebrating connection on World Animal Day
This October 4th, we celebrate the special connection between humans and animals with two beautiful Higher Love Society events.
🌿 Forest Walk & Drinks – Eindhoven (Best)
A relaxed walk through nature followed by a drink together. A chance to meet new people, enjoy meaningful conversations and, because it’s World Animal Day, bring your dog along if you have one.
🌊 Dog Walk & Connect – Scheveningen
A beach walk where humans and dogs come together. Fresh ocean air, good conversations and the opportunity to connect with like-minded people.
Because sometimes the most beautiful connections happen when we simply slow down, walk side by side and allow ourselves to be open.
Love is not only something we find. It is something we experience, practice and share.
